The Shape of a Circle in the Mind of a Fish,
part 6: Love and Lament
Symposium festival co-curated by Filipa Ramos and Lucia Pietroiusti in collaboration with Schering Stiftung
31 May 2025
The Shape of a Circle in the Mind of a Fish convenes a wide range of perspectives, from visual art to literature, spirituality, biology and technology, to consider how consciousness, intelligence, language, affects and forms of togetherness are manifested and expressed across the Earth’s life forms. Love and Lament considers how love and care for a world in change are being affected by a sense of loss and transformation and how the traditional cycles of collapse and renewal are being challenged and interrupted. Participants include Aslak Aamot Helm, Antoine Bertin, Kapwani Kiwanga, Michael Ohl, Alejandra Pombo Su, Elizabeth Povinelli, Claudia Rankine, Asad Raza, Giles Round, Jenna Sutela, Jovana Maksic, Staci Bu Shea and Revital Cohen & Tuur Van Balen with DJ sets by Tuur Van Balen and María Inés Plaza Lazo.
New sustainable models for artist-led spaces
Knowledge sharing project with assembly House, Leeds (UK) on sustainable models for artist-led spaces. E-WERK and Assembly House are hosting residencies at their respective sites to demonstrate their ways of working as artist-led organisations with different approaches to share and learn the context of their work, and the ways that heritage buildings can be used to advantage, holding histories within them whilst creating space for future legacies.
the sustainable institution is a long-term international programme divided into three phases: a symposia series, artist residency and digital toolkit in partnership with LUMA Arles, Rupert Centre for art, residencies and education and Gallery Climate Coalition. The project is a call to action to innovate new sustainable approaches and stimulate human, economic and ecological change to the cultural landscape.
Sites of… Practice is a yearly programme that supports the emergence of a new field of practice in the face of the polycrisis.
